April 30, 2026
£34 - £34 / hour

Job Description

An exciting locum opportunity has arisen for an experienced Childrens Team Manager to join Gateshead Council’s Children’s Social Care service, based at the Civic Centre in NE8. This is a fast-paced, frontline role at the heart of the referral and screening process, offering the chance to make a real difference to the lives of children and families across Gateshead.

In this role you will take day-to-day responsibility for the triage of incoming referrals into children’s social care, acting as the duty manager to sign off decisions regarding referral outcomes. Experience of duty and assessment, MASH, or front-door services is highly desirable, along with a solid understanding of threshold frameworks, safeguarding legislation, and quality assurance processes.

Strong decision-making skills, the ability to lead and support practitioners under pressure, and a clear commitment to child-centred practice are essential. You will be comfortable working at pace whilst maintaining high standards of record-keeping and professional accountability.

This is a locum engagement paying £34.45 per hour, with a start date of 10th May 2026. If you are an experienced children’s team manager looking for your next challenge in the North East, we would love to hear from you. Please get in touch today to discuss this opportunity further.
