Job Description

Are you an experienced and qualified Senior Social Worker ready to make a real difference to children and families in County Durham? We have an exciting opportunity based in Chester-le-Street for a dedicated Childrens Senior Social Worker to join a busy and well-structured team delivering high-quality statutory social work across a broad range of complex cases.

This team holds responsibility for children in need and children in need of protection, children accommodated via Section 20, care proceedings, and private law orders. You will carry a varied and challenging caseload, drawing on your expertise in child protection, looked-after children, and court work to achieve the best possible outcomes for vulnerable children and young people.

You will be expected to undertake thorough assessments, develop robust care plans, and engage confidently with court processes including care and private law proceedings. You will work collaboratively with colleagues, partner agencies, and families, and contribute positively to the wider team culture.

The successful candidate will hold a recognised Social Work qualification (BA/MA in Social Work or equivalent), be registered with Social Work England, and have demonstrable post-qualifying experience within a statutory children’s team. Experience of court work and care proceedings is highly desirable.
