Job Description
A rewarding opportunity has arisen for a Social Care Officer to join a Children with Disabilities service based at Westgate Community College, Newcastle upon Tyne (NE4 9LU). This is a community-based, unqualified social care role supporting children and young people with disabilities and their families.
Working alongside qualified social work colleagues, you will provide direct support and practical assistance to children with disabilities, helping to assess needs, coordinate care plans, and ensure young people and their families receive appropriate services. You will contribute to safeguarding processes and maintain clear, accurate case records in line with local authority standards.
Key responsibilities include liaising with families, schools, health professionals, and other agencies; supporting care assessments and reviews; assisting with referrals and service coordination; and maintaining up-to-date case documentation.
Candidates will ideally have experience in a children’s social care setting, particularly with children with disabilities or special educational needs. A relevant Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care or equivalent is desirable. Strong communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills are essential.
