Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Youth Justice Practitioner to join Trafford Council’s multi-agency Youth Justice Team, based in Stretford, Manchester (M32 0TH), on a temporary contract running from 5th May to 31st July 2026.
In this role you will deliver a seamless, multi-agency service that identifies and addresses the risk factors associated with offending behaviour, promoting rehabilitation and social inclusion for young people within their families, schools, and local communities.
Key responsibilities include undertaking detailed holistic assessments using recognised youth justice assessment tools; creating and managing statutory orders and out-of-court disposals; facilitating and delivering offending behaviour programmes on both a one-to-one and group-work basis; and devising bespoke intervention programmes tailored to each young person’s assessed risk. You will maintain close working relationships with young people, their families, victims of crime, and partner agencies, whilst providing practical support around accommodation, education, training, employment, and finance.
The team works within a resettlement framework, engaging with secure estate providers and supporting young people serving custodial sentences through sentence planning and pre-release rehabilitation programmes. You will also liaise with court, manage restorative justice interventions, and ensure victims’ voices are heard throughout the process.
The successful candidate will have relevant experience in youth justice or a related field, strong assessment skills, and a sound understanding of risk management frameworks. The umbrella rate is £2,151 per week (£16.96 per hour).
