Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated Children’s Social Worker to join Trafford’s Families First team, based at Talbot Road, Manchester (M32 0TH). This is a temporary role running from 25 May 2026 to 31 July 2026, offering £35 per hour.

This role sits within a specialist Children in Need service operating on a locality basis, designed to strengthen assessment and planning for children in need and their families. The service raises the status of child in need work and ensures a consistent, borough-wide approach to practice.

You will hold a varied caseload that includes undertaking Section 47 enquiries, completing child and family assessments, and supporting children through Child in Need planning. Teams operate duty on a rota basis, so flexibility and confidence across a range of referral types is essential. You will also be expected to build genuine relational partnerships with families, enabling the safe step-down of plans in line with family timescales.

Candidates must be able to work from the office at least three days per week. Five years of references will be required, and any gaps in employment history will be checked.

Applicants must hold a recognised Social Work qualification and be registered with Social Work England. Please note that DfE Recommendation Compliance Questions must be completed prior to submission via the XMS portal.
