Job Description

Wigan Council (GM Collaboration) is recruiting a Seasonal Gardener based at Makerfield Way, Ince, Wigan (WN2 2PR) for a fixed-term contract running from 1 June to 30 September 2026. The rate is £13.45 per hour.

Working as part of the grounds maintenance service, you will operate a full range of grass cutting equipment and powered hand tools, undertake horticultural maintenance tasks including sports pitch over-marking, flower, rose and shrub bed maintenance, herbaceous borders, formal lawns, soft and hard landscaping, pruning, and hedge cutting. You will work on your own initiative with minimal supervision, maintain operational records, and take responsibility for the security of vehicles, machinery, and materials allocated to you.

You will also act as an ‘eyes and ears’ presence across the borough, reporting issues such as blocked gullies, fly tipping, and anti-social behaviour through the relevant procedures, and help to resolve day-to-day problems and enquiries.

Ideal candidates will hold PA1, PA6, and Quad (PA2) pesticide application certificates and a full driving licence. If this seasonal grounds maintenance role interests you, please get in touch promptly.
