Job Description

Gateshead Council is seeking an experienced Childrens Senior Social Worker (Consultant Social Worker level) to join its award-winning Kinship Team, supporting children to achieve stability and permanence with extended family members or friends. Based at the Civic Centre, NE8 1HH, with hybrid working available. Rate: £31.74 per hour. Start date: 27 July 2026.

You will assess and supervise kinship carers, assist with leadership of the team, drive performance, and ensure high-quality, timely assessments. You will provide reflective supervision, champion continuous improvement, prepare reports for court and other forums, and manage safeguarding and risk. The role also involves inter-agency collaboration and deputising for the Practice Lead when required.

Candidates must hold a recognised Social Work qualification and be registered with Social Work England, with extensive experience in children’s social work including child protection and children in care, and a current driving licence.
