Job Description
Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking an experienced, HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist to join its Occupational Therapy Service based in Birkenhead. This is a community-facing role delivering specialist, statutory assessments under the Care Act 2014, supporting adults with complex, progressive, and multifaceted needs to promote independence, manage risk, and prevent deterioration.
Working autonomously across the borough, you will undertake a range of functional and specialist assessments — including seating, moving and handling, major adaptations, and Disabled Facilities Grant recommendations — alongside social care and health colleagues in an integrated, multi-agency environment. You will make clinical decisions on complex outcomes, manage a challenging caseload, and provide supervision, mentoring, and guidance to junior OTs and students.
Applicants must hold an Occupational Therapy degree and current HCPC registration, with demonstrable CPD in line with RCOT guidance. Experience of specialist equipment provision, major adaptations, and working with people at advanced stages of progressive conditions is essential. Knowledge of relevant legislation including the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, and Housing Grants (DFG) legislation is required. A driving licence and ability to travel across Wirral are essential. Hybrid working is available.
