Job Description
Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking an experienced Adults Advanced Practitioner to join its Adult Social Care service, based in Birkenhead (CH41 2YA). This is an interim role paying £29.76–£38.38 per hour, commencing 7 September 2026.
This senior post carries a lead responsibility for ensuring the highest standards of operational social work practice across safeguarding, adult protection, and high-level risk cases. You will manage a complex caseload involving multiple safeguarding incidents, critical decision-making, and recourse to legal applications including Court of Protection proceedings. Alongside direct case responsibility, you will work alongside practitioners on particularly complex cases, chair adult protection operational meetings, and quality-assure reports, assessments, and court documentation.
A key element of the role is team leadership and professional development: mentoring and supervising practitioners, identifying training needs, allocating and managing workloads, and establishing peer-review and learning initiatives across operational services. You will promote effective multi-agency working, contribute to safeguarding policy and procedural development, and lead on specific service-development projects as required.
Essential requirements include a recognised social work qualification (Degree in Social Work or DipSW), current registration with Social Work England, and substantial post-qualifying experience in a statutory adults setting. Best Interest Assessor (BIA) qualification is required. Evidence of continuing professional development in line with the PCF is expected. Hybrid working is available with flexibility to work across the borough.
If you are a qualified, BIA-trained social worker with strong safeguarding and complex-case experience ready to step into a leadership role, please apply without delay.
