Job Description

Herefordshire Council is seeking a qualified Senior Practitioner to join the Family Help South locality team in Hereford (HR4 0LE). This is a meaningful opportunity to deliver statutory children and families social work in a team that places restorative practice at its core.

You will hold and lead a complex caseload as the Family Help Lead Practitioner, working directly with children, young people, and their families to deliver effective help, protection, and intervention. Responsibilities include completing needs assessments and risk assessments, developing tailored Family Help Plans, chairing Child in Need meetings, core groups, and strategy discussions, and undertaking safeguarding work in partnership with the Multi-Agency Child Protection Team (MACPT). Court work, report writing, and accurate case recording are integral to the role.

The team operates within the statutory framework of the Children Act 1989, Children Act 2004, and Working Together 2026, and embraces the principles of the Families First Programme. Senior managers are accessible for reflection and guidance on complex cases.

Candidates must hold a Social Work Degree, DipSW, CQSW or equivalent with a minimum of 3 years post-qualifying experience and current Social Work England registration. Experience in statutory children and families settings, confident risk analysis, and strong multi-agency working skills are essential.

Rate: £33.30 per hour (umbrella). 37 hours per week. Business mileage at 55p per mile. Accommodation expenses up to £150 per week. Start date: 1 September 2026.
