Job Description
Kirklees Children’s Services is seeking an experienced Childrens Team Manager to lead within its Quality Assurance and Safeguarding service, based at Silver Court, Huddersfield (HD5 9AG). This is a temporary role running from 15 June 2026 to 31 May 2027, paying £26.62 per hour via XMS.
The Quality Assurance and Safeguarding service works across Children’s Services and with key partners to quality assure safeguarding practice, identify themes requiring improvement, and support better outcomes for children and young people. Service areas include the Child Protection and Review Unit, Allegations Management, Complaints, Children’s Rights, the Kirklees Safeguarding Children Partnership Business Unit, Legal Project Officers, and Foster Carer Reviews.
This Team Manager will have direct management responsibility for Foster Carer Reviewing Officers and the Independent Visitors Scheme, and will fulfil the Fostering Panel Adviser role. Key responsibilities include: advising Team Managers and Social Workers on fostering processes; quality assuring panel documentation prior to each panel; liaising with practitioners to resolve deficits in papers; attending panel and providing professional social work opinion; identifying practice issues and reporting to senior managers; arranging induction and ongoing training for Panel Members; conducting annual performance reviews of Panel Members alongside the Chair; and ensuring all documentation submitted to panels and the Agency Decision Maker meets the required standard.
Applicants must be qualified social workers registered with Social Work England, with substantial children’s social work experience and a sound working knowledge of fostering legislation, regulations, and case law. Previous experience in a panel adviser or reviewing officer capacity is highly advantageous.
