Job Description
Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council is seeking an experienced Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) to join their Children and Families Directorate, based at Seafield House, Redcar (TS10 1SP). This is a locum role paying £34.45 per hour, starting 3 August 2026.
As IRO you will chair Child Protection Conferences and Children in Care Reviews, providing independent scrutiny and oversight of the Local Authority’s planning and challenging the Local Authority and partner agencies where necessary. Responsibilities include chairing and following up Initial Child Protection Conferences, Children in Care Reviews, Adoption Reviews, Secure Reviews, and Foster Care Reviews; ensuring the ascertainable wishes and feelings of children are given due weight; monitoring Local Authority performance in relation to children in care; and contributing to service development and complaints resolution.
You will be part of an experienced, knowledgeable, and supportive team with access to a wide range of training and development opportunities, with the shared goal of achieving excellent outcomes for children and young people in Redcar and Cleveland.
Applicants must be Social Work England registered and hold a recognised social work qualification. IRO experience or a strong background in child protection and looked-after children is essential.
