Job Description

Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council are seeking an experienced Childrens Senior Social Worker to join their Children in Our Care team, based at Seafield House, Redcar (TS10 1SP). This is a locum position paying £31.74 per hour, available from 1 July 2026.

In this role you will hold a caseload of looked-after children, safeguarding their welfare and promoting stability and permanence. You will complete assessments, develop and review care plans, and work towards achieving permanence through reunification, long-term care, or adoption where appropriate. Building genuine, child-centred relationships is central to the role — the voice of each child must inform all planning and decision-making.

Day-to-day responsibilities include multi-agency working, attending statutory reviews and court proceedings where required, managing risk, and maintaining accurate, timely records in line with statutory requirements. You will be expected to deliver consistently high-quality practice that improves outcomes for children in the care of the local authority.

Applicants must hold a recognised social work qualification, be registered with Social Work England, and have demonstrable experience working with looked-after children. Experience of court work and care planning for permanence is advantageous.
