Job Description

Birmingham Children’s Trust is seeking an experienced Childrens Senior Practitioner to join their Children and Families service, based at 45 Fordhouse Lane, Stirchley, Birmingham (B30 3BN). This is a locum role paying £24.51–£33.29 per hour, starting 10 August 2026.

In this lead role you will drive improvements in the quality of professional social work practice across the full casework cycle, holding a complex caseload whilst providing technical expertise, quality assurance, coaching, and mentoring to less experienced social workers.

Key responsibilities include delivering a needs-led, legislative-compliant social work service to children, young people, and their families; managing complex allocated cases; sharing working knowledge of relevant legislation, national standards, and departmental policy; promoting effective partnership working with service users, teams, and external agencies; contributing to performance management reporting; and supporting the Team Manager as required.

Applicants must hold a recognised social work qualification and be registered with Social Work England. Significant post-qualifying experience within children and families services, including exposure to complex casework, is essential.
