Job Description
Birmingham Children’s Trust is seeking an experienced Senior Practitioner to join their Children and Families service, based in Stirchley, Birmingham (B30 3BN). This is a locum role paying £24.51–£33.29 per hour, starting 10 August 2026.
In this lead practitioner position, you will drive improvements in the quality of professional social work practice across the full casework cycle for children, young people, and their families. You will hold a complex caseload whilst providing technical and professional expertise, coaching, and mentoring to less experienced social workers.
Key responsibilities include delivering a needs-led, legislative-compliant social work service; managing allocated complex cases; sharing knowledge of relevant legislation, national standards, and departmental policy; quality assuring work across the team; and actively promoting effective partnership working with service users, agencies, and wider organisations. You will also support performance management reporting, represent the department in meetings, and assist the Team Manager as required.
Applicants must hold a recognised social work qualification and be registered with Social Work England, with demonstrable experience of complex children and families casework and a track record of supporting and developing less experienced practitioners.
