Job Description

Kirklees Council is seeking an experienced Fostering Reviewing Officer to join its Fostering Service in Huddersfield (HD5 9AG) on a temporary contract from 15 June to 18 December 2026, at £23.37 per hour.

In this independent reviewing role, you will ensure that foster carers provide care to Children Looked After (CLA) to a standard that meets and exceeds the Council’s legal and statutory responsibilities. Reporting to the Team Manager, you will chair annual and additional reviews of all foster parents in line with policies, procedures, national guidelines, and legislation, using your professional expertise to both challenge and commend practice and ensure recommendations are actioned.

Beyond individual reviews, you will identify gaps in processes, staff performance, and in-service provision, evaluating overall service delivery and contributing evidence to drive service improvement. You will play a key role in maintaining Ofsted readiness, supporting the annual fostering data collection and addressing data integrity issues. You may also contribute to Quality Assurance responsibilities linked to the Fostering Panel.

Candidates must hold a recognised social work qualification and be registered with Social Work England. An enhanced DBS check is required. A conviction will be considered as part of the recruitment process but will not automatically exclude candidates from appointment.
