Job Description

Wrexham County Borough Council is seeking a Social Care Qualified Assistant Team Manager for its Children’s Assessment and Intervention Team, based at 31 Chester Street, Wrexham, LL13 8BG. This is a locum role paid under the All Wales Pledge (£31.06–£41.58 per hour), available from 21 September 2026.

This post sits within a duty-operating team undertaking Section 47 enquiries and comprehensive assessments. You will manage an allocated caseload of routine and complex social work interventions, escalating cases as required and making independent professional decisions in line with your development and qualification. Responsibilities include undertaking assessments, developing and designing care and support plans (including education plans), working within budgets, and partnering with external providers and services to secure appropriate support for children, young people and their families.

You will provide support to children and adults at risk, their families and carers — identifying and assessing risk and developing proportionate responses. When rostered to duty, you will respond immediately to new referrals, use the recording system effectively, and manage immediate crisis presentations. You will also contribute to the professional development of less experienced practitioners through mentoring and co-working on complex cases.

Applicants must hold a recognised Social Work qualification, be registered with Social Work Wales (or Social Work England), and have demonstrable experience in children’s assessment and intervention work. Experience of S47 enquiries and comprehensive assessments is essential.
