Job Description

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Building Safety Manager to join Southwark Council’s Building Safety Team, supporting delivery of the Private Sector Building Safety Programme. This programme identifies high and medium rise private residential buildings across the Borough that may have unsafe cladding or other fire safety defects, working in partnership with MHCLG to safeguard residents.

Key responsibilities include undertaking desktop reviews of privately owned high and medium rise residential buildings, developing a risk-based inspection programme, collecting external wall systems (EWS) data, reviewing FRAEW reports, categorising buildings by risk level, and referring cases with suspected unsafe cladding to the internal enforcement team. You’ll engage with building proprietors on remediation funding and timelines, liaise with the Fire and Rescue Service and other stakeholders, and support enforcement investigations and inspections.

The working pattern involves three days on-site conducting building inspections and two days in the office for reporting and administrative tasks.

Candidates should hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Building Surveying or a related field, with at least 5 years’ experience in Building Safety, Fire Safety, or Building Surveying, and experience undertaking HHSRS surveys. Knowledge of the Building Regulations 2010, Housing Act 2004, Building Safety Act 2022, Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, Fire Safety Act 2021 and Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 is essential, along with strong communication and IT skills.
