Job Description

Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking an experienced Adults Social Worker to join its Adult Social Care service, based in Birkenhead (CH41 2YA). This is a hybrid role offering £27.98–£36.08 per hour, starting 8 June 2026.

You will support the delivery of health and social care functions for adults and carers across Wirral, embedding the Care Act 2014, strengths-based practice, personalisation and social inclusion. Working within a Multi-Disciplinary Team, you will carry out complex needs-led assessments, care and support planning, safeguarding enquiries, and Best Interest Assessments in relation to Deprivation of Liberties. You will contribute to the MASH, MARAC and MAPPA processes, support the duty and triage function within the Review Team, and provide practice supervision to ASYE social workers and Care Navigators.

Candidates must hold a recognised Social Work qualification (Degree, DipSW or equivalent) and be registered with Social Work England. Proven experience with vulnerable adults with complex needs — including older people, mental health, and physical disability — is essential. A Best Interest Assessor or Practice Educator qualification is desirable. You must be able to travel across the borough and work flexibly, including occasional evenings and weekends.
