Job Description

Newport City Council is seeking a qualified Social Worker to join their Adult Services team, based at the Civic Centre in Newport, South Wales. This is a varied and rewarding role working across community, front door, and hospital discharge pathways, with a particular focus on adults with learning disabilities.

You will be responsible for assessing and reviewing adults with complex needs, managing a caseload with competing demands, and applying strengths-based and person-centred approaches throughout your practice. You will work confidently with risk, applying the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and relevant legislation to inform your decision-making, and maintaining effective partnerships with a broad range of stakeholders and outside agencies.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding of policy and regulations relating to the protection of vulnerable adults, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to analyse information quickly within a coherent framework. Proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office is required. A commitment to personal and professional development, confidentiality, and achieving positive outcomes for individuals and carers is essential.

This is a locum position via Prism at a rate of £20.98–£28.01 per hour, starting 6 July 2026. Social Work England registration is required. Apply now to be considered.
