Job Description

Somerset Council is seeking a qualified Adults Social Worker to join their Adult Services team based in Shepton Mallet, Somerset (BA4 5BT). This is a locum opportunity paying £27.78–£38.00 per hour, available from 22 June 2026.

In this role you will manage a caseload of varying complexity, undertaking assessments of risk and care needs within relevant legislation to protect service users from significant harm and promote independence. Responsibilities include completing community care and risk assessments, statutory reviews, carer assessments (including young carers), crisis management, and developing realistic care plans in consultation with service users and partner agencies. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team alongside hospital health colleagues and maintain strong partnerships with primary care, housing, police, and voluntary sector organisations.

Desirable experience includes working with people with Learning Disabilities and some supervisory experience. A vehicle is an essential requirement for this post.

Essential requirements: a recognised Social Work qualification (BA or MA in Social Work or equivalent) and current registration with Social Work England. Candidates must be able to speak fluent English in accordance with Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016. A DBS check will be required.
