Job Description
Powys County Council is seeking a qualified Social Worker for a sessional Emergency Duty Team (EDT) post based at County Hall, Llandrindod Wells, Powys (LD1 5LG). This is an out-of-hours role covering adult social care across the Powys region, responding to urgent and emergency social work situations when daytime services are unavailable.
The rate is £35.63–£46.73 per hour, with a start date of 1 June 2026. The role is sessional in nature and covers a large, predominantly rural county — the description includes a travel-time matrix between key Powys towns (Brecon, Builth Wells, Knighton, Llandrindod Wells, Newtown, Welshpool and others), reflecting the geographic demands of EDT cover across mid-Wales.
Candidates must hold a recognised social work qualification and be registered with Social Work England (or Social Care Wales). Previous EDT or out-of-hours experience is highly desirable given the autonomous, fast-paced nature of emergency duty work.
If you are an experienced Adults social worker comfortable working independently across a wide geographic patch, contact us today to discuss this sessional EDT opportunity with Powys County Council.
