Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Social Worker to join Trafford’s Cared for Children’s Service, based in Stretford, Manchester (M32 0TH), on a contract running from June to October 2026 at a rate of £35 per hour.

This service manages casework for children and young people who have a permanent care plan, with a focus on ensuring placement stability and minimising disruption. The team works to sustain long-term, meaningful relationships with children coming out of care proceedings, helping them understand their journey and heal from the impact of past experiences. You will work collaboratively with partners, carers, and wider networks to provide a robust framework of care, support, and guidance.

Key responsibilities include managing a caseload of looked-after children, reviewing and progressing permanent care plans, supporting placement stability, and engaging children and young people in a child-centred, trauma-informed way. You will work closely with internal teams and external partners to pull together networks of support around each child and their carer.

Candidates must be qualified Social Workers registered with Social Work England and bring demonstrable experience in looked-after children or care proceedings work. A minimum of five years’ references will be required, and any gaps in employment history will be checked. Please note that DfE Recommendation Compliance Questions must be completed prior to submission via XMS.
