Job Description

Thurrock Council is seeking an experienced Temporary Accommodation Reduction Specialist to join its Housing Solutions Transformation Programme on an interim basis, based in Grays, Essex (RM17 6SL). The rate is £426.65–£573.42 per day, starting 25 May 2026.

This is a senior leadership role responsible for reducing the number of households living in temporary accommodation across Thurrock. You will lead a dedicated team, driving a proactive, outcomes-focused strategy to move residents through temporary accommodation as quickly and sustainably as possible — reducing both human and financial pressures on the council.

Key responsibilities include developing and delivering TA reduction initiatives, building a high-performance team culture, leading PRS partnership work with landlords and housing providers, and contributing directly to service redesign as part of the Homelessness Transformation Programme. You will use performance data to drive decisions, produce reports for senior management, and represent the service at strategic forums.

The ideal candidate will bring significant experience in homelessness, housing solutions or temporary accommodation services, with a strong track record of team leadership and service improvement. A sound understanding of homelessness legislation and housing duties is essential, as is experience developing move-on pathways and working with PRS and social housing partners.
