Team Manager – Pre-Birth Team – #5295391

April 22, 2026
£38 - £38 / hour

Job Description

An exceptional opportunity has arisen for an experienced and qualified Team Manager to join Durham County Council’s Pre-Birth Team, based at Sherburn Hill Family Centre, DH6 1PA, at a rate of £37.66 per hour.

Following a service redesign launched in 2022, Durham’s Pre-Birth Team delivers intensive, bespoke intervention to at-risk families, working with care leavers, young parents, and those with experience of care proceedings to break cycles of repeat social work involvement. The team operates with capped caseloads, creating genuine space for meaningful, relationship-based practice.

As Team Manager, you will lead a passionate and nurturing team of pre-birth social workers, providing direct oversight of day-to-day casework and working alongside Social Work Consultants and the wider senior management team. You will embed Signs of Safety as the team’s model of practice, championing strength-based, collaborative, and evidence-based approaches. You will be responsible for ensuring high-quality, timely assessments of parents prior to birth, supporting newly redesigned assessment pathways being launched county-wide.

Key responsibilities include creating a practice environment where children’s voices and journeys remain central, robustly managing risk, promoting community resilience, and leading by example with integrity, creativity, and clarity of purpose.

Candidates must hold a recognised social work qualification and be registered with Social Work England. Prior experience managing within a children’s social care setting is essential. Parent Assess qualification is desirable. A strong training and development offer, including an in-house leadership programme, is available.
