Job Description

Barnet Council is seeking an experienced Personal Advisor to join their Leaving Care service, based in North Finchley, London (N12 0RG). This is a temporary locum role paying £22.08–£28.79 per hour via Prism, available from 3 August 2026.

You will hold an allocated caseload of care leavers aged 17.5–25 years, managing complex and high-risk cases to improve outcomes for some of the most vulnerable young people in the borough. Working within national legislation, policy, and London Borough of Barnet procedures, you will deliver high-quality practice and champion a multi-agency approach to support.

Key responsibilities include completing Pathway Plans; providing information, advice, and guidance on learning, careers, and personal development; undertaking creative direct work to motivate and sustain life improvements; liaising with education, training, and employment organisations; developing networks across voluntary, statutory, and community agencies; and supporting families and carers. You will also manage information effectively and engage with monthly performance data to drive continuous improvement.

The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience working with care leavers or vulnerable young people, strong risk-management skills, and the ability to coordinate across multi-agency partnerships. A non-qualified role — a formal social work qualification is not required, though relevant experience in leaving care or children’s services is essential.
