Agency Staff – Home to School Passenger Assistant Key Requirements:

Must hold a current Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance for working with children and vulnerable adults.

Ability to speak fluent English clearly so young children can understand without difficulty.

Agency working must live in Wigan Borough or be able to travel to a meeting point in Wigan Borough.
-
Must be able to complete a split shift – e.g. 7:30–09:30 AM and 14:30–16:45 PM.

Previous experience of working with SEND children in any role is desirable.
-
Understanding of child protection and safeguarding protocols, including reporting concerns and maintaining professional boundaries.

Epilepsy awareness.
-
Experience of autism and communication strategies.
Core Duties (Induction and training will be provided):
-
Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of SEND pupils during the journey.

Secure seatbelts, harnesses, and specialist equipment correctly.

Act as a link between parents, school, and management team for any issues.
-
Manage challenging behaviour calmly and professionally.
-
Follow emergency procedures (e.g., medical incidents, breakdowns).
Personal Attributes:

Calm, patient, and empathetic when supporting children with complex needs.

Reliable, punctual, and safety conscious.

Ability to work as part of a team with the driver, school staff and management team.
Home to School Passenger Assistants are collected from their own home or a prearranged collection point inside Wigan Borough. The roles utilises a split shift. Staff may be required to attend training and meetings at the Wigan Life Centre South.
