Complex Building Assessor & Validator – Fire Safety Team – #OR101458

Job Description

An excellent interim opportunity has arisen with Southwark Council’s Fire Safety Team, sitting within Engineering and Compliance under the Housing Directorate. Based at 160 Tooley Street, London SE1, this hybrid role offers up to £64.19 per hour (or £400–£450 per day) for an experienced fire risk assessment professional.

You will carry out Type 1 fire risk assessments on residential properties, delivering fire safety services directly to residents. Working closely with the Fire Safety Co-Ordinator, you will have flexibility to manage your own diary and workload whilst contributing to a dedicated, collaborative team of Fire Risk Assessors and Fire Safety Co-Ordinators reporting to the Fire Safety Manager.

Key responsibilities include monitoring the existing legacy portfolio with regard to FRAs, supporting procedures for the management and control of fire risks, and contributing to the overall technical competence of the Fire Safety Team.

Candidates must hold either a Tier 3 Level 5 Risk Assessor qualification or a Fire Engineering CIOB Level 6 fire safety qualification. Membership of a relevant professional body (IFE, IFSM, or CABE) is required, along with demonstrable residential FRA experience. A thorough working knowledge of the Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order, Approved Document B, and relevant British Standards is essential, as is a solid understanding of different construction methods and the application of active and passive fire safety measures.
