Job Description

Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking an experienced Childrens Team Manager to lead a Neighbourhood Social Work team in Ashton-Under-Lyne. This is a contract role running from 13 July to 15 September 2026, paying up to £46 per hour via XMS.

You will be responsible for a team delivering assessment, planning, and intervention services to children at the threshold of Child Protection, PLO, and Court proceedings. Your leadership will ensure social workers and ASYEs are well supported, challenged, and equipped to achieve the best outcomes for Tameside’s children and families.

Key responsibilities include managing and supervising cases within the PLO and Court arena, developing and supporting your team through regular supervision and appraisal, and building strong relationships with children, families, colleagues, and external partner agencies.

The ideal candidate will have considerable frontline experience in statutory children’s social care, a proven track record of managing and developing social work teams, and extensive experience supervising complex cases including PLO and Court work. Qualified Social Worker status with current Social Work England registration is essential.
