Job Description

Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking a qualified Children’s Social Worker to join the first response team within Stockport’s Multi-Agency Safeguarding and Support Hub (MASSH). This is a frontline statutory role at the heart of Stockport Family, working within a multi-agency environment to identify, triage and assess contacts made into the MASSH, ensuring children and families receive the right level of support and safeguarding in a timely manner.

You will carry out MASSH enquiries, triaging and assessments within statutory timeframes, make informed threshold decisions, and initiate Section 47 child protection investigations where required. Working collaboratively with schools, partner agencies, the voluntary sector and other local authorities, you will apply strengths-based and restorative practice principles, keeping the voice of the child central to all your work.

The role requires a confident, experienced social worker with strong knowledge of child protection, safeguarding, early help, and looked-after children frameworks. You must be comfortable working in a fast-paced first response setting and be accountable to the first response team leader.

Please note: suppliers must complete the DfE Recommendation Compliance Questions and attach the file to the candidate record prior to submission. Candidates must also provide a 5-year reference history with employment gaps checked and relevant qualifications verified.

Rate: £35 per hour. Start: 22 June 2026. End: 22 September 2026. Location: Edward Street, Stockport, SK1 3XE.
