Job Description

Rochdale Borough Council (GM Collaboration) is seeking an experienced Childrens Social Worker to join their Cared for Children Team, based in Rochdale, OL16 1XU. This is a temporary role paying £35.00 per hour, running from 24 August to 30 November 2026.

You will hold a caseload of more complex cases within the Cared for Children service, providing advice and guidance to less experienced colleagues and supervising students, trainees, and support staff. Key responsibilities include assessment and risk management, participating in case planning and reviews, court work including giving evidence in care proceedings, and liaising with internal and external agencies for assessment and care planning purposes. You will maintain high-quality case records and reports to required ethical and professional standards, and contribute to duty rota cover.

Candidates must hold a recognised professional social work qualification, be registered with Social Work England, and have a minimum of two years’ post-qualifying experience working within a Cared for Children or equivalent Looked After Children team. Strong analytical, planning, communication, and supervisory skills are essential. A full driving licence is required. The role requires an Enhanced DBS, Barring checks, at least two years of verifiable references, and ID verification.
