Childrens Social Worker – Assessment Team – #OR105762

June 22, 2026
£28 - £38 / hour

Job Description

Somerset Council is recruiting a qualified Social Worker to join an Assessment Team based at King Square, Bridgwater, supporting children and families in the Sedgemoor locality. This is a temporary role paying £28.41–£38.00 per hour via Prism, starting 6 July 2026.

You will undertake high-quality, child-centred assessments of need and risk, ensuring children and young people are protected from significant harm. Using relational, strengths-based, and trauma-informed approaches, you will build trusting relationships with families, develop and review care plans that reflect the child’s voice, and deliver evidence-based interventions. You will manage a caseload of varying complexity, respond to referrals, prepare court reports and written statements, and contribute to quality assurance processes.

Collaboration is central to this role: you will work alongside Somerset Safeguarding Children Partnership and professionals across statutory, independent, and voluntary sectors to secure the right resources for families.

Candidates must hold a recognised social work qualification, be registered with Social Work England, and have demonstrable experience in Child Protection and safeguarding within children’s services.
