Job Description

Liverpool City Council is seeking an experienced Children’s Social Worker to join its Short Breaks Service, supporting children with disabilities and their families across Liverpool (L11).

This is a varied and rewarding role working directly with children with disabilities, undertaking Short Break Assessments and Carers Assessments, reviewing Short Breaks arrangements with full risk analysis, and maintaining up-to-date Care Plans and Reviews. You will hold a complex and varied caseload, working within statutory frameworks including preparation of written statements and representations at SEND Tribunals and Court hearings.

Key responsibilities include undertaking direct work with children, young people and their families; assessing levels of risk and need in complex situations; chairing multi-disciplinary forums; contributing to multi-agency working across Council and partner boundaries; and supporting colleagues’ professional development through reflective practice and evidence-based decision making.

Candidates must be qualified Social Workers registered with Social Work England, with demonstrable experience in children’s social care and ideally a specialism in working with children with disabilities. Strong report-writing skills, critical analysis, and knowledge of relevant legislation (including SEND frameworks) are essential.

This is a temporary locum role based in Liverpool, offering £35 per hour (LTD) or up to £36.12 per hour (PAYE range), 35 hours per week, starting 6 July 2026. Please get in touch to express your interest.
