Job Description

Durham County Council is seeking an experienced Social Worker to join its Pre-Birth Team, based at Sherburn Hill Family Centre, DH6 1PA. This is a specialist role supporting vulnerable families during pregnancy, ensuring the safest possible start in life for unborn babies.

You will work closely with expectant parents, partner agencies, and safeguarding professionals to assess risk and create positive outcomes. Key responsibilities include completing comprehensive pre-birth assessments and risk analyses, working directly with expectant parents to identify strengths, needs, and risks, developing and implementing safeguarding plans, and leading Child in Need, Child Protection, and pre-proceedings work where required. You will build strong partnerships with health professionals, midwives, and multi-agency teams, prepare high-quality reports, and present evidence at meetings and court proceedings when necessary.

The role is offered on a temporary agency basis at £32.73 per hour, starting 19 July 2026. Candidates must hold a recognised social work qualification and be registered with Social Work England.
