Job Description
Barnsley Children’s Services is seeking an experienced Childrens Senior Social Worker to join their Children In Care team, based at Westgate Plaza One, Barnsley (S70 2DR). This is a temporary post running from 10 August to 19 October 2026, paying £35 per hour.
In this role you will advocate for the wellbeing and development of looked after children and young people, placing their voice, hopes, and aspirations at the heart of every plan. You will develop meaningful relationships with children, collaborate with families, carers, and professionals to achieve the best outcomes, and drive plans that robustly address physical, identity, emotional, and educational needs. You will also support children in retaining connections with their families and wider networks, and produce high-quality assessments and reports for looked after reviews and court proceedings.
Practice in Barnsley is underpinned by a strengths-based and relational model. The service is deeply committed to evidence-based interventions and meaningful direct work, enabling social workers to truly know and understand the children they support and make timely, sustainable plans for their futures.
Candidates must hold a recognised social work qualification and be registered with Social Work England, with demonstrable experience in a looked after children or children in care setting. If you are passionate about achieving the very best outcomes for looked after children, we would love to hear from you.
