Childrens Senior Social Worker – Children and Families – #000B17141

June 2, 2026
£40 - £40 / hour

Job Description

Stockport Family is recruiting an experienced Senior Social Worker to join their children and families service, based centrally in Stockport town centre (SK1 3XE). This is a temporary agency role paying £40 per hour, running from 22 June to 1 September 2026.

Stockport operates a distinctive model where social workers hold cases from referral through to closure or permanence, enabling genuine relationship-based practice and a varied caseload. Teams are co-located with health, police, Early Help, and MASSH colleagues and are organised around small geographic patches with strong links to local schools and services through a Team around the School model.

Typical caseloads centre on Child Protection and Child in Need, with scope to include court work or cared-for children where this suits the worker. Average caseload is 20. Each team comprises a Team Leader, two Senior Practitioners, and six Social Workers, with monthly reflective and systemic supervision, group supervision opportunities, and access to specialist consultation via the Aspire service on domestic abuse and complex safeguarding.

Stockport offers a comprehensive workforce development programme — covering restorative practice, SEND, and regular CPD — fully open to agency staff, along with a yearly PDR. Flexible and hybrid working is supported.

Applicants must hold a recognised social work qualification, be registered with Social Work England, and have demonstrable experience of statutory children and families work. Note: suppliers must complete the DfE Recommendation Compliance Questions and attach the completed file to the candidate record prior to submission.
