Job Description

Rochdale Borough Council is seeking an experienced Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) / Child Protection Conference Facilitator to join their children’s services team in Rochdale town centre (OL16 1XU) on a contract running from 27 July to 31 October 2026, at £40.00 per hour.

In this dual-purpose role you will chair and facilitate Looked After Children reviews and Child Protection Conferences, ensuring the voice of the child is central to every outcome. Day-to-day responsibilities include analysing and reviewing Care Plans and Child Protection Plans, acting as a consultant to social workers, managers and partner agencies on child protection thresholds and conferencing matters, and facilitating meaningful participation of children, young people and their families in planning and review processes.

Candidates must hold a recognised social work qualification and be registered with Social Work England, with a minimum of five years’ post-qualified experience including substantial practice in child protection and children in care. You will be confident chairing complex multi-agency meetings, possess strong communication skills and emotional intelligence, and be able to work relationally with children, young people and their families.

The role is based in a modern, award-winning town-centre building with excellent transport links including Metrolink, bus exchange and Rochdale train station, and is within ten minutes of the M62. Hybrid and flexible working arrangements are available by discussion with the manager.
