Job Description

Birmingham Children’s Trust is recruiting a Family Finding Social Worker to join the Permanence Hub, based in Aston, Birmingham (B6 4DU). This is a locum role paying £22.50–£30.57 per hour, available from 14 September 2026.

This is a specialist, proactive role focused on securing timely, stable and nurturing family-based fostering placements for children and young people in care. Working closely with children’s social workers, placement services and external fostering providers, you will lead creative family-finding activity to support permanence planning and reduce delay for children waiting for placements.

Key responsibilities include undertaking comprehensive family-finding and placement-finding activity; developing high-quality, strengths-based child profiles, pen pictures and promotional materials; coordinating matching events and community engagement; building relationships with independent fostering agencies and placement providers; supporting matching discussions and transition planning; and contributing to performance monitoring and quality assurance.

The Trust is particularly keen to hear from applicants with experience in family finding, placement finding, fostering recruitment or adoption services. You will hold a recognised Social Work qualification, be registered with Social Work England, and have experience working with children in care, alongside knowledge of fostering regulations, permanence planning and children’s legislation.
