Job Description

Gateshead Council is seeking a qualified Advanced Practitioner to join its Social Care Academy as an Assistant Team Manager, supporting the development of the wider social work workforce in the North East.

This is a varied leadership and practice development role. You will supervise NQSWs and students, supporting their professional growth and ensuring high standards of practice across children’s social care. Day-to-day responsibilities include chairing planning and strategy meetings, overseeing record keeping and report writing to quality standards, and supporting the Team Manager with performance scrutiny and quality assurance. You will foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement, providing leadership that enables both individuals and teams to perform at their best.

Candidates must hold a recognised social work qualification and be registered with Social Work England. A Level 2 Practice Educator qualification is required, or you must be actively working towards it. Experience supervising qualified practitioners and students within a children’s social care setting is essential.

This is a full-time locum post based at Gateshead Civic Centre (NE8 1HH), running from 31 August 2026 to 15 February 2027, paying £34.45 per hour.
