Job Description

Bolton Council is seeking an experienced Childrens Advanced Practitioner to join their Safeguarding Children’s service, based at Castleton Street, Tonge Moor, Bolton (BL2 2JW). This is a full-time, 37-hours-per-week locum role paying £40 per hour, running from 24 August to 2 October 2026.

The role combines case holding with mentoring and supporting Newly Qualified Social Workers (NQSWs). You will work across Bolton’s Safeguarding Teams, with your specific team allocation depending on experience. The office base is Castle Hill, and candidates must be able to travel to the office at short notice when service demands require.

Candidates must demonstrate knowledge of Child Protection and Children in Need (CIN), court processes, report writing, and working within statutory deadlines within a Safeguarding Team. Duty and home visits are required, with caseloads covering the Bolton area.

A minimum of three years’ post-qualification experience is required, along with a recognised social work qualification and current Social Work England registration. A five-year employment reference history with gaps checked will be required, along with a DBS check for any candidate offered a post.

Flexible working is available — a balance between working from home, office attendance, and statutory visits in line with service need. Free on-site parking is provided.
