Job Description

Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking an experienced Childrens Advanced Practitioner (Senior Practitioner) to join its Safeguarding Service in Ashton-Under-Lyne. This is a genuine step-up opportunity created by the permanent recruitment of existing staff — an ideal moment to join a team actively building and improving its service for children and families across Tameside.

In this role you will hold a caseload of more complex children, provide leadership alongside the Team Manager, and drive the team’s improvement plan. You will offer reflective and group supervision to colleagues, model good practice, and provide teaching and learning opportunities to newer staff. You will also support data improvement and provide cover for the Team Manager when required.

The successful candidate will be a qualified social worker registered with Social Work England, with substantial post-qualifying children’s social work experience — ideally including safeguarding and complex case work. The ability to mentor and supervise others is essential. Candidates must be able to supply five years of references with employment gaps accounted for, and hold relevant qualifications as per the job description.

Note: this is a GM Collaboration role via XMS. Suppliers must complete the GM Pledge Compliance Attributes Questions before submission. Rate: £23.82–£40 per hour. Start: 13 July 2026. End: 15 September 2026.
