Job Description

Sheffield City Council is seeking an experienced, qualified social worker to join its Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) team at Howden House, Sheffield. This is a full-time, 37-hours-per-week interim post running from 13 July to 30 September 2026, paying £37 per hour, covering additional demand within the service.

You will be one of three full-time equivalent LADOs working collaboratively to deliver consistent, proportionate and timely responses to allegations and concerns about adults in positions of trust who work with children. The team is well-regarded by partners and offers a strong peer network for reflection, consultation and shared learning.

Key responsibilities include holding a central leadership role within the safeguarding partnership, managing allegations in line with statutory guidance and local procedures, chairing or contributing to multi-agency safeguarding forums, and making clear, defensible decisions based on complex information.

Candidates must hold a recognised social work qualification and be registered with Social Work England. Substantial post-qualifying experience in children’s safeguarding is essential, along with a strong working knowledge of statutory guidance and best practice. You will need to demonstrate sound analytical judgement, the confidence to offer constructive challenge to senior leaders and partners, and the ability to communicate calmly and professionally in highly sensitive situations.
