Job Description

An experienced Childrens Advanced Practitioner (Social Work Consultant / Deputy Team Manager) is sought to join a busy Families First Team at Durham County Council, based at Spennymoor Green Lane Council Offices, DL16 6JQ. The rate is £35.45 per hour, with a start date of 1 June 2026.

This is a key leadership role supporting the Team Manager in day-to-day operational management and delivery of high-quality children’s social work services. You will provide management cover in the Team Manager’s absence, overseeing caseloads, staff allocation, and operational decision-making, whilst ensuring robust safeguarding and support for children, young people, and families.

Key responsibilities include quality assurance of assessments, plans, and interventions to ensure statutory compliance and best practice; chairing multi-agency strategy meetings and discussions; monitoring performance and outcomes to drive continuous improvement; supporting workforce development through mentoring and coaching; and fostering strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.

Applicants must be a Qualified Social Worker with current Social Work England registration and hold significant post-qualification experience in children’s social care, including experience of supervising staff and managing complex cases. Strong knowledge of safeguarding, assessment frameworks, and statutory guidance is essential, alongside excellent leadership, decision-making, and communication skills.
