Attendance Support Officer – Education Social Work – #OR102520

July 29, 2026
£15 - £19 / hour

Job Description

Wrexham County Borough Council is seeking an Attendance Support Officer to join its Education and Early Intervention Department, working within the Education Social Work service based at Lambpit Street, Wrexham (LL11 1AR). This is a temporary role paying £14.82–£19.22 per hour, starting 13 July 2026.

The post sits at the heart of the Council’s duty to ensure school-aged children receive an education. You will work with pupils, families, schools, and partner agencies to identify and remove barriers to attendance, conducting regular home visits, running Attendance Improvement Plans, and completing attendance audits across mainstream schools, special schools, and PRUs.

Key responsibilities include: carrying out home visits to establish reasons for absence and support reintegration; acting as mentor and coach to pupils with attendance anxieties; liaising with multiagency partners including Children’s Services, police, and third-sector providers; completing safeguarding referrals in line with Wales Safeguarding Procedures; analysing attendance data and reporting findings to the Education Support Manager; and providing support to the Youth Justice Service Education Officer where appropriate.

Candidates should have at least five GCSEs at grade C or above. A Level 4 qualification in youth and community work, health and social care, or a related discipline is desirable, as is a coaching or mentoring qualification. You will need significant experience working with vulnerable young people, strong ICT skills, the ability to analyse data, and the resilience to manage lone working and occasionally challenging home environments.

Apply now to make a meaningful difference to some of Wrexham’s most vulnerable young people.
