Job Description
Rochdale Borough Council is expanding its Children’s Residential Service and seeking an Assistant Unit Manager to work across its homes for children and young people aged 8–17 with social and emotional needs.
Based at Bankfield Way, Rochdale (OL11 5RJ), this is a temporary role running from 10 August to 31 October 2026. Pay rate is £18.85–£20.66 per hour (PAYE) or £24.28–£26.61 per hour (umbrella), 37 hours per week.
Key responsibilities include supervising and supporting residential workers, monitoring and auditing compliance with Ofsted requirements and the Children’s Homes Regulations and Quality Standards 2015, working within the framework of Children Act and Working Together to Safeguard 2023, deputising for the Registered Manager, and conducting annual appraisals. You will be a positive role model for young people and staff alike, promoting emotional health and wellbeing through a therapeutic, PACE-based model of care.
Rochdale offers a strong training offer including the Therapeutic Parenting with PACE programme, with a clear pathway to Registered Manager for those with that ambition.
Requirements: age 21 or over; minimum 2 years’ experience working with children and young people; NVQ/Diploma Level 3 in Working with Children and Young People (or equivalent); Level 4 Diploma desirable (Level 5 in Leadership & Management supported). Enhanced DBS with barred list check (child workforce) required.
