Job Description

Join Ascent, Birmingham Children’s Trust’s Complex and Enduring Mental Health Team, working to prevent admission or readmission to secure mental health services and safeguard children and young people who have experienced mental health crisis or detention under the Mental Health Act 1983. This Senior Practitioner role covers a varied caseload spanning children in need through to children in care, using relational, systemic and trauma-informed approaches. You will undertake complex case management and high-quality assessments, mentor newly qualified social workers, students and family support workers, and step in to cover the Team Manager during absences. Birmingham Children’s Trust was rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted in 2023, with particular praise for safeguarding and partnership working. You must be registered with Social Work England, have proven safeguarding experience, and hold a driving licence with access to a vehicle (mileage and expenses paid). A background in child and adolescent complex mental health is desirable but not essential.
