Job Description

Manchester City Council is seeking an experienced Account Manager to join the Council Tax Unit within the Revenues and Benefits Service, based at Alexandra House, Manchester (M15 5BA). This is a temporary contract running from 7 September 2026 to 3 August 2027, paying £15.11–£16.66 per hour via XMS.

The role provides specialist support across the HMRC Data Matching Project, handling complex and sensitive casework including formal complaints, Ombudsman investigations, and Valuation Tribunal proceedings. Day-to-day responsibilities include analysing and validating data from HMRC and other sources, conducting detailed account reviews, processing amendments to Council Tax records, and preparing robust written responses for senior management, councillors, MPs, and legal representatives.

Essential: proficient use of MRI (Academy) system for Council Tax administration, including billing, recovery, and input of earnings attachments. Desirable: experience of NEC Document Management (EDMS) for retrieving, indexing, and managing electronic records.

The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical ability, meticulous attention to detail, sound knowledge of Council Tax legislation and data protection requirements, and excellent written communication skills. Experience of corporate complaint handling procedures and the ability to exercise professional judgement on complex, sensitive matters are equally important.
