Job Description

Flintshire County Council is seeking an Advanced Social Worker to join the Family Intervention Team (FIT) within Flintshire Children Services, based in Flint, CH6 5BD. This is a locum role paying £25.58–£34.31 per hour, available from 10 August 2026.

The Family Intervention Team holds primary responsibility for all Child Protection work within Flintshire Children Services while children remain on the Child Protection Register. The team also oversees and manages the majority of Court applications made by Children Services, retaining cases until a plan of permanence is identified. Where cases proceed via the Adoption route, they remain within FIT; where children enter the Looked After Children system on a long-term basis, cases transfer to the Permanency Team following conclusion of Court proceedings.

In this role you will re-evaluate previous assessments and, depending on outcomes, work towards removal of children’s names from the Child Protection Register — whether through case closure, downgrading and transfer to the Targeted Support Team, or escalation into the PLO arena where the threshold for significant harm has been identified. You will be instrumental in guiding families through care proceedings and supporting the development of robust, court-approved care plans.

Candidates must hold a recognised social work qualification and be registered with Social Work England. Substantial post-qualifying experience in children’s statutory services, particularly Child Protection and Court work, is essential.
