Job Description

The London Borough of Sutton is seeking an Enabling Independence Officer (Trusted Assessor) to join its Adult First Contact Service, based in Sutton, SM1 1EA. This is a temporary role paying £20.37–£26.56 per hour via Prism, starting 1 September 2026.

As a specialist Trusted Assessor, you will manage a caseload of straightforward home adaptation cases — stairlifts, ramps, accessible bath and shower facilities — acting as the bridge between the service user and the adaptation delivery process. You will conduct home environment assessments, identify risks, and recommend person-centred solutions that promote independence, whilst screening referrals to determine whether cases require escalation to an Occupational Therapist.

Working within established legislative and Trusted Assessor frameworks, you will collaborate with Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, technical officers, housing services, and external agencies to ensure timely, integrated delivery. You will also identify process bottlenecks, suggest service improvements, maintain accurate records in line with GDPR requirements, and identify and report safeguarding concerns.

The successful candidate will hold an NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in health, social care, or housing adaptations, with a sound understanding of the Trusted Assessor framework, the Care Act 2014, and the Mental Capacity Act 2005. Experience of risk assessments, daily living equipment, and home adaptations is essential, alongside strong ICT and communication skills.
