Job Description
Rochdale Borough Council is expanding its Children’s Residential Service and is seeking an Assistant Unit Manager at Wordsworth Way, Rochdale (OL11 5HZ). This is a temporary role running from 10 August to 31 October 2026, 37 hours per week, paying £18.85–£20.66 per hour PAYE (£24.28–£26.61 umbrella).
Based within the Directorate of Children’s Services, Division of Cared for Children Resources, you will support the day-to-day management of a children’s residential home accommodating young people aged 8–17 with social and emotional needs. You will act as a positive role model, supervise staff, deputise for the Registered Manager, and ensure the home operates in compliance with Ofsted requirements, the Children’s Homes Regulations and Quality Standards 2015, and Working Together to Safeguard 2023.
Candidates must be over 21 with at least two years’ experience working with children and young people, and hold a minimum of NVQ/QCF Level 3 in Working with Children and Young People (or equivalent). A Level 4 Diploma or above is preferred, though Rochdale will support successful candidates to complete the Level 5 in Leadership and Management. Appointment is subject to an enhanced DBS check including a barred list check (child workforce).
